Any one old enough that enjoyed driving Victoria's state major highways in the late 1960's and 1970's may recall the Police Studebaker V8's pursuit cars a bit  like the ones in early HOMICIDE TV show the producers of the show. On that note Crawford film Productions had knowledge of the Victoria Police  Monaro  In 1971  Crawford's capitalized on the Monaro's popularity and used the car as a Police "station  car"  at the start of every  Matlock police show as well as in action .The  young may google to source the info or watch some of it it on you tube.
After the Studebaker  Police V8 highway pursuit cars run ended in 1967 the Victoria Police joint Ford falcon V8 Police car programme commenced with  two prototype pursuit cars of which both cars were rejected and sent to the crusher however the car's platform after improvements suggested by the highway patrol evaluation test drivers  recommended those improvements which were implemented and  formed the production of the falcon GT in May 1967 Twenty one  Victoria Police  289 V8 Ford  falcon GT highway pursuit cars were ordered  That 1967 with the falcon GT model also winning the Bathurst enduro as never before it was Australia's first V8 muscle car cementing the dawn of the Australian muscle car era.  GMH responded the following year in 1968 introducing the amazing new designed Australian sports coupe the Monaro GTS 327 Bathurst model to lead Holden's  Bathurst Enduro assult  The Holden Dealers Team lead by Davis Mackay fielded four cars , however a privateer Bruce McPhee won with the popular Warwick yellow monaro GTS 327  The   rivalry  between Ford and Holden continued evolving  with the  the production  racing cars  climaxing at the short lived   Supercar era  The Monaro retired from Bathurst enduros undefeated in 1969 with the Torana taking over the rivalry for GMH Harry Firth who pioneered the development  and testing of the 1967 XR Police falcon GT and won the Bathurst enduro  with  co driver Fred Gibson in 1967. Harry Firth joined GMH in time for the 1969 Bathurst enduro preparing the Holden dealer Team monaros  with a convincing  win of the Great Race.
We are group of  Police car enthusiasts who are are tracing   the Victoria Police pursuit cars and the little known history of  the  models from  the Mobile Traffic Section  Highway Patrol or commonly known as Interceptors or Highway Pursuit cars  we can only come up with two cars from the General and both were a Monaro not just any Monaro  they were the Bathurst  winning powered 1970 HT MONARO GTS  350 in that era the  Victoria Police cars were white after a long period of Stratosphere blue or commonly referred to as powder blue by the public. The white cars as the Monaro's were marked police cars  they were not the high visibility multi colours of today or the candy colours  The only remarkable signs were the Victoria Police insignia on the door panels the bonnet siren and the turret blue flashing light on the roof  with Bathurst motors and drive lines devoid of the rally stripes and GTS badges and wheel trims   Little is know of both the Monaro Police cars  with the exception of a photo and brief paragraph by David Carey in the book On Patrol in Gippsland  published in 2001  plus a brief of the same photo and description  in the  Australian Muscle Car Magazine in 2005  Issue 49  billed as SUPER SQUAD with Sergeant David Carey on the cover  fortunately the Victoria police Historical Society has the original photo of the Monaro. Most have not ever heard of these special General Motors HOLDEN  Police Bathurst Monaro 350  V8 4 speed manual highway pursuit muscle cars

We know the Monaro were both sold and the successful Car dealer supplied Brand new Police spec XY GT falcons They were delivered to Dawson Street Brunswick Police Complex and the Monaros were picked up as the replacements arrived KOJ 121 pictured was sold and picked up by New Oakleigh Motors and prepared for after detailing and processed and ready for sale in the used car yard Ferntree Gully Rd Oakleigh in March 1971 It was offered for sale at $3290 - It took a couple of months to sell to be The other monaro 350 was acquired by B S Stillwells it was advertised in Match 1971 for the sum of $2990 THe car sold very quickly at that price

Both Monaro 350's were  registered in May 1970. Both sold  wholesale to the Ford dealers in February 1971
The cars were given to the Victoria Police Transport section executives in May 1970 to drive and run in for 1200 miles then after the first service hand the car over to the Mobile Traffic Section Highway Patrol to commence enforcement of the road traffic laws the cars are only in Police use for generally up to 30,000 miles then decommissioned and sold to the car dealers who tender the best price
