FALCON GT FIRST V8 & LAST FALCON V8


In 1966 with the new wide track MUSTANG look XR V8 SEDAN Ford Motor Company BROADMEADOWS' Bill Bourke with Ford Racing Team Manager Harry Firth began work on a Victoria Police PURSUIT V8 'INTERCEPTOR' by March 1967 the First 2 prototypes were completed and sent to Victoria Police Transport branch (TRANSPORT) for evaluation one went to the Wireless patrol and the other to Mobile Traffic Section ( TRAFFIC) Impressive as they were with a Mustang 289 4V V8 and 4 speed manual floor shift gearbox plus bucket seats The wireless patrol preffered a bench seat and column shift auto and the Traffic Highway patrol thought it lack a bit in power plus wanted a better suspension both cars were sent back and like FORD do were improved then crushed and buried The result of the feedback improvement suggested by Victorian Police and the PURSUIT of FALCON GT was rolled into the production of the new improved 1967 XR FORD FALCON GT SPORTS SEDAN with the cars produced well before the due release MAY 1967 -21 XR POLICE GT 289 variant were produced on the lowest budget deleting the fairmont frills replacing them with 500 trim and skin 5 XR POLICE GT 289 Variants also went to ACT POLICE-
